Manchester United may have been eclipsed by Arsenal this season but skipper Roy Keane insists the foundations are in place for the club to reclaim their dominance of English football.

Keane, who this week cast doubt on how much longer he would be able to serve as United8217;s captain and midfield driving force, believes emerging players such as Darren Fletcher and Cristiano Ronaldo can ensure a bright future for the club.

8220;There is a very good balance of players coming through, a really good mix,8221; Keane said. 8220;People at the club have had great hopes for Fletch over the last year, and he8217;s certainly not disappointed anyone. Fletch has said himself that central midfield is his favoured position. And I think the manager is perhaps waiting for him to get a little bit stronger.8221;

The future may be bright but United8217;s present is not as rosy as it might be with the club involved in a cut-throat battle with Chelsea to secure second place behind Arsenal and avoid having to qualify for next season8217;s Champions League group stage.
