VADODARA, March 16: A function to mark World Consumer Rights Day was organised on Monday by consumer rights group Jagrut Grahak at the Sardar Bhavan near Jubilee Bag. M S University Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane was the chief guest on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Maganbhai Desai of Jagrut Grahak said while it is commonplace for roadside stalls to cheat customers, big establishments and companies did the same thing but in a more subtle manner. He expressed the need for an agency to verify whether printed prices of articles were the actual ones and not manipulated.

Recollecting an incident, he said he was sold a strip of tablets for Rs 20 when its printed price was Rs 29.

S K Dutt from Delhi8217;s Consumer Forum said that while law requires that there should be a consumer forum in every district, the situation today was that only 40 per cent of towns having over one lakh population had such forums.
