COPENHAGEN, May 14: Morten Frost, one of the all time greats of badminton, says he may quit the game after his contract as Malaysian head coach has finished because he is too controversial.

The former world number one and four times all-England champion helped Denmark to the final of the Thomas Cup and an Olympic men’s singles gold medal before successfully developing youth squads in Malaysia over the past two years.

But Frost is growing tired of the politics of the sport, claiming that national associations all around the world are too weak.

“It’s not that I am unhappy or that I have any special problems in my job at the moment, I don’t,” he said. “It’s just a general observation about the game.

What should happen is that a head coach is put in charge for a certain length of time and given complete support for what he wants to do. Then if by the end of his contract he has not succeeded he is out.

“That is just sense. You must have your judgement backed. Yet because of the way things are inbadminton at the moment I appear too controversial.

I will probably not have any further involvement in badminton after my present contract has finished, I may miss the buzz but I won’t get the irritation either.”

Although Frost does not want to specify any particular issues which have brought him to his present point of view, it is well known he felt the Danish Badminton Federation did not sufficiently support him in his disputes with leading players.
