PANCHKULA, April 11: The Morning Star Fellowship Society today awarded diplomas to over 42 trainees of Maa Bhavani Tailoring Centre, which is run in collaboration with the Shramik Vidyapeeth. Chandigarh MP Satya Pal Jain was the chief guest on the occasion. Others present were J.N.Ahuja, General Secretary of the Maa Bhavani Social Service Organisation and Arun Kamboj, Acting Director of the Shramik Vidyapeeth 8211; which holds courses for those below the poverty line. The students come from poor families mostly from Dadu Majra, Maloya, Palsora, Bapu Dham and Indira Colony.

The Shramik Vidyapeeth which is sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development holds two tailoring courses of 6 months and 1 year duration. Today, 12 candidates of the 6-month course and 30 candidates of the 1-year course were awarded diplomas. The courses are provided free of cost to the needy and deserving candidates at its centres at Mauli Jagaran and Sector 39 in Chandigarh.

Besides, the Centre also runs other courses of 6 month-duration, and the students get Rs.100 as stipend. The courses include training for beauticians, Radio and Television repair, and computers. The courses are conducted under the Swaran Jayanti Shehri Rojgar Yojna started by the Chandigarh Muncipal Corporation, which has sanctioned Rs.1,40,000 for the purpose.

Retirees body celebrates founders Retired Persons Welfare Association, Panchkula, celebrated its 16th Foundation Day at the Senior Citizens Council Hall in Sector 15 here today. Harbans Jindal, Member, State Working Committee of the Bhartiya Janata Party was the chief guest. The function began one hour late, as both the chief guest and the retired persons failed to turn up on time.

A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion. Other events like fast walk for retired officers, musical chairs for ladies and a fancy dress competition for children were also arranged.

Speaking on the occasion, President of the association, Lt.Col. B. M. Talwar stressed the need for unity and being well organised. The chief guest assured the association of his support.
