Ignoring the UGC circular to hold a common admission test for professional courses with other universities, Aligarh Muslim University has decided to go ahead with the process of conducting its own test for all such courses.

The decision was taken at a joint meeting of members of the university8217;s executive council yesterday, AMU sources said today.

8216;8216;Representatives of central universities would not succumb to 8216;bullying tactics of the UGC8217; and would further intensify their agitation,8217;8217; secretary of the AMU Teachers8217; Association Mohammad Shahid said. He said teachers of all central universities would go ahead with their one-day token strike on January 22.

8216;8216;It was unfortunate that instead of working for the resolution of the crisis, the UGC was adopting a confrontationist posture,8217;8217; Tariq Mansoor, a teachers8217; representative at AMU executive council, said.

He said as far as AMU was concerned UGC was trying to 8216;8216;infringe8217;8217; upon provisions which are explicit in the AMU Amendment Act 1981.
