And when you picture a skirt, for god8217;s sake don8217;t think of those mundane knee-length, small and broad pleated ones. Just take a look at the fashion stores and you will be amazed at the innovative variety that is available. And what is common in all the products is the focus on comfort, wearability and body fit. Each one can choose his or own style.

Fashion pundits have not only changed materials and cuts but the entire concept of a skirt. A visit to Sanskriti, the city8217;s designer store revealed strikingly innovative and aesthetic designs that are in vogue.

According to Dolly Kapoor, Manager of Sanskriti, 8220;everything short is in. Girls want the shortest of skirts, shorts and hot shorts that just cover their hips. But most teenagers today have terrific bodies, so it is a pleasure selling them these.8221;

Knee-lengths are absolutely out. As far as formal skirts are concerned, they have a lot of demand for ankle-length fitted skirts with slits. Slits have also been experimented with uniquely. Available are thigh slits, side and front ones and slits in the middle as well! Another deviation from skirts are the Capre pants, which used to be known as paddle pushers. Available in a variety of colours, these pants look very chic and comfy. They are tapered very aesthetically and have been cut finely to provide a beautiful fit.

Capre pants are mostly in cotton and are therefore, ideal for summers. Another innovative form of skirts are the short-cum-skirts. You can pair them with short halters, chicken tops or strappy blouses. Wraparounds in flowery prints and plains are ideal for women with a tiny waist. 8220;Wear a tiny top to reveal the waist,8221; suggests Dolly. The store also has formal skirts in lace and nets that look like fairy tale dresses ideal for girls out for their initial formal parties.

RCS is another store that stocks innovative western wear, formals and informals. According to Shailaja, manager at RCS, calf-length skirts in lycra and knitted fabric are the favourite among women these days.

8220;Last year one-colour garment for formal wear was preferred. A long black skirt with a black top was one of the favourite combinations. This year, A-line skirts are very much in vogue. Jatin Kocchar8217;s long, front-open knit skirts are also a hit with women,8221; she says.
