MUMBAI, June 16: The cash-rich Indian cricket received another dose of incentives by way of Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence scheme a press release said today.

The scheme provides for a poll among cricketers who have played a minimum of one Test and five one-day internationals. Factors such as number of runs, wickets, catches will also be taken into account to decide the eventual winner.

Performances stretching from October 1 to September 30 would be taken into account, and currently, five are in the running, they being: Sachin Tendulkar, skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath and Saurav Ganguly, the release further added.

Mumbai lad selected

The Air-India National Hockey Academy conducted their annual selection trials at the National Stadium, New Delhi, from June 4 to 6. Mumbai8217;s Joseph D8217;Souza figures in the list of regulars.

The following boys have been selected for the 1998-99 season: Devesh Chauhan UP, Kamaldeep Singh Punjab, Shekhar Misra UP, GurvinderSingh Punjab, Sunil Yadav UP, Gurlal Singh Punjab, Joseph D8217;Souza Mumbai, Sakhir Khan Bhopal, Sadul Kabir MP and Gurpreet Singh Chandigarh.

Reserves: Pfrekelo Nagaland, Rajesh Yadav UP, Gurjeet Singh Punjab, Gajender Singh Haryana, Hardeep Singh Haryana, Junaid Jadda Mumbai, Manmohan Singh Chandigarh and Vijay Alfanso Mumbai.
