
French Open finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero joined the exodus of top seeds in the second round at Wimbledon when he was beaten by lucky loser Jeff Morrison 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 today.
The ninth-seeded Ferrero joined former champions Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi and 2000 U.S Open champion Marat Safin as casualties of the second round.
Morrison, ranked 98th in the world, was too mobile for the Spaniard, constantly attacking the net and running down every shot on centre court. World No.1 Lleyton Hewitt restored order to a Wimbledon draw peppered with big name casualties, dispatching France8217;s Gregory Carraz 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 to reach the third round. Croatian giantkiller Mario Ancic, who had been hailed as the new Goran Ivanisevic, was slain by the towering Czech Jan Vacek 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.

A moody Kim Clijsters saw her Wimbledon challenge perish as the fifth-seeded Belgian was beaten 7-6, 6-2 by Russian Elena Likhovtseva in the second round. Reigning champion Venus Williams sailed majestically into the third round with an imposing 6-3, 6-1 victory over the Spaniard Virginia Ruano Pascual.
In other second round action Spain8217;s Conchita Martinez, champion here in 1994, grabbed her place in the third round with a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory over Swiss 17th seed Patty Schnyder.
Italian 10th seed Silvia Farina Elia also cruised through 6-3, 6-2 to end German Barbara Rittner8217;s campaign.
Croatian teenager Mario Ancic, who caused a major upset when toppling seventh seed Roger Federer on his grand slam debut in the first round on Tuesday, was an early victim of the day, slain by towering Czech Jan Vacek 6-4, 6-4, 7-5.
