Fee-hike stir intensifies

The agitating students took out a procession this morning in which the effigy of the university authorities was taken around the university departments and later burnt at the Students8217; Centre, amid slogan shouting.Two more student activists 8212; Bhupinder Singh Bhuppi, president of the HSA, and Hari Singh of the SFI have also joined Munish Anand on the fast-unto-death against the fee hike.

The ABVP, the Punjab State unit of the SFI and the Punjab Students8217; Welfare Union, have criticised the university authorities and the PU syndicate for the fee hike.

Meanwhile, PU Dean Students8217; Welfare Prof V.K. Bansal stated that he would meet the agitating students on Wednesday regarding their ongoing stir. 8220;We will ask them what their actual objections are. We will also discuss the new fee structure vis-a-vis other universities. The university has ample fee concessions, students8217; aid funds and scholarships for needy students,8221; he stated.
