The BJP on Monday came out in defence of its senior leader Jaswant Singh who is facing charges of serving opium-laced brew at a function hosted by him in Barmer last week. 8220;I believe the particular allegation holds no truth. However, an investigation has been ordered and the truth will prevail,8221; BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, reacting to the Jodhpur Special Court order to register a case against Singh.
Asked how the party was sure that the charges were false, Rudy said, 8220;That is exactly what has been told to us by Jaswant Singh.8221; On whether the former Union Minister8217;s 8220;VIP status8221; stopped the Rajasthan police from registering a case, leading to the court intervention, he said, 8220;That is a presumption on your part.8221; Singh8217;s son Manvendra also rejected the allegations that opium was served at the party where several MLAs opposed to Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje were also present. 8220;Mo drug was served at the function. We had organised a Riyan which we were planning for a long time,8221; he said.
