Fake passport racket busted

VADODARA, June 15: The Vadodara rural police here have claimed to have busted a racket of fake passports by arresting a passport agent and a person who had two forged passports made in two different names from Anand and Calcutta.

Acting on a tip-off from local intelligence sources, the police arrested Ghanshyam Patel from Nathipura village of Padra taluka and recovered two forged passports from his possession. While his Anand passport bore his real name Ghanshyam Patel, the Calcutta passport mentioned his name as Ghanshyam Kumar Shah.

District Superintendent of Police Shamsher Singh told Express Newsline that Patel went to Germany on his Calcutta passport and worked there for about a year under the name of Javed. He also gave a fake address in Ahmedabad. However, on inquiring the company employers found that no one in the name of Javed lived in the given address. Suspecting something foul, they terminated his services and initiated proceedings for his deportation, even as a number of people visiting Germany on fake passports were found to be travelling to Pakistan as well.
