8226; This is with reference to Tavleen Singh8217;s column, 8216;8216;Teaching Terror8217;8217;. Undoubtedly, there are some Muslims who take the name of Islam to get involved in terrorist activities. This helps reinforce the image of Muslims as a community of 8216;8216;fundamentalists8217;8217;, 8216;8216;fanatics8217;8217;, 8216;8216;extremists8217;8217; and 8216;8216;anti-nationals8217;8217;. However, we must not forget that many Muslim individuals and organisations condemn such acts of violence.
As for madrasas, if indeed they are guilty of breeding terrorists, as Tavleen would like us to believe, why wouldn8217;t our Central and State governments not have taken action so far. For that matter, why wouldn8217;t the intelligence agencies have cracked down on these so-called terrorist training grounds.
As per our Consitution, every religion can have its place of worship and institutions for religious instruction. In fact, Hindus have more religious pathshalas, vidyalayas, gurukuls and maths all over the country than Muslims. It is also a historical fact that madrasas like Darul Uloom Deoband played an important role in the freedom struggle.

8226; While Tavleen Singh is right about the 8216;8216;education8217;8217; provided in madrasas, we cannot ignore how the Togadias and Singhals have become so rabidly anti-Muslim and anti-Christian. What kind of 8216;8216;education8217;8217; did they get at the RSS shakhas? We must make an attempt to understand jehadis, how and why so many youths are ready to give up their lives for the cause of Islam.

8226; For the past few weeks Tavleen Singh has indulged in unabashed Muslim bashing. I think that8217;s her favourite pastime. She links madrasa education to terrorism. If she thinks that poor Muslim boys who learn the Quran will become terrorists, then all our sadhus/ sants who only get religious education must be terrorists too. The fact is that Indian Muslims are mostly illiterate and poor. We have to find innovative ways to bring them into the mainstream rather than condeming them to terrorism.
