8226; It8217;s such a pity to hear from learned people like P Chidambaram to talk about infrastructure, infrastructure, infrastructure like Tony Blair harping on about education in UK October revolution, 2003, The Sunday Express, October 19. Did you think for a moment why all those investments by the PWD and the Railways went to waste in the first place? Defective Rule of law aggravated by a poor judicial infrastructure. The contractor-babu nexus could repeat their corrupt acts with impunity, encouraging the new recruits to follow suit. From slums to pollution, absentism to corruption, IRDP to road projects it was corruption that ruined the country. And corruption is a rule of law problem and it can only be addressed by rule of law. Education or literacy can only play a very minor role in this. An average Brit cannot spell correctly, or do the numbers correctly. But the society created a level playing field by creating a reasonably good rule of law.

8226; P Chidambaram should have added to his list the lack of leadership and weakening of moral values plaguing India. Since the Independence the leaders of Industry and academia did not provide the leadership expected of them. They were more interested in protecting their self-interests with the help from corrupt politicians. Fortunately there is hope ahead with emergence of a new set of leaders like President Abul Kalam, N R Narayana Murthy and Azim Premji.

8226; With reference to Tavleen Singh8217;s White hand on our nuke button? The Sunday Express, Oct 19. It was frustrating to read such an ambiguous and illogical article. She seemed more like a parochial, selfish politician more than the mature and sensible writer that she is. Should a foreigner occupy the No 1 position of the country? If the person has what it takes to make it then why not? When a white hand nurses Indian downtrodden we glorify her and call her mother, but if some foreign hand approached towards that hallowed chair we feel we are facing the white imperialism.

8226; Tavleen Singh8217;s White hand on our nuke button? was a masterpiece. The issue she has tackled in the article is of paramount importance to the nation, which was subjected to foreign rule, thanks to the tolerant outlook coupled with lack of patriotism. Even if Sonia Gandhi is endowed with tremendous other qualities, she is free to serve the country in many other ways. After all to ameliorate the lot of the poor is her mission and she does not have any selfish interest, as she claims, then there will be no opposition to her in this pursuit by the tolerant Indians.

8226; It is true that Sonia Gandhi is not the most suitable candidate for the post of PM. She lacks experience and political acumen; she doesn8217;t have any original ideas or programme. But is it right to harp on her so called foreignness? We cannot decide where we are born. Sonia has accepted India as her country. There is no reason to doubt her love for India. Tavleen attacks Sonia just because she happened to be born in a different part of the world. If we accept the theory of differentiation on the basis of birth, then we have to accept the concept of caste too. When a person of Indian origin becomes PM in Fiji, it8217;s a matter of pride. We are granting our NRIs dual citizenship. Why do we object to Sonia?
