GURDASPUR, MAY 1: Kamaljit Singh Kamal, Gurdaspur-based correspondent of The Indian Express, was assaulted by Vinod Gupta, a local reporter of UNI and the Hind Samachar group, in front of the office of ADC (General) Bidhi Chand here yesterday.Vinod Gupta's name had figured in a news item carried by The Indian Express on April 24 wherein he was accused of making an attempt to forcibly grab a piece of land belonging to Shiv Temple at Chaiya village, 2 km from from here, on April 7.Although an inquiry has been ordered by the ADC (General), yet Vinod Gupta has denied having any hand in the case. While taking possession of the temple land, the accused also allegedly took possession of a piece of land adjoining to the temple land, which belonged to Bal Krishan Sharma and Manohar Lal Sharma.
