HYDERABAD: Some wagons of a goods train got detached from the engine and travelled four kilometres between Alur and Padugupadu stations in Nellore district on Friday. The Talamanchi station staff who noticed the freak occurrence, alerted the crew. The guard applied vacuum brakes and brought the delinked wagons to a halt.

The influx of leaders into the Telugu Desam Party TDP continued with the entry of Nalgonda district Zilla Parishad chairman C D Ravi Kumar and former Chirala MLA Sajja Chandramouli into the ruling party. While Kumar was from NTR-TDP, Chandramouli was a Congress leader.

CHENNAI:The Film Directors Association in the State led by ace director C Bharathiraja are but a step short of declaring a war on the Tamil Television channels. The result: Watch any Tamil satellite channel, the staple fare of filmy shows would be missing from the coming new year. The Association has decided not to provide any interviews to television channels. They have also stopped supplying film clippings including song sequences, and have forbidden shooting interviews with film personalities on the sets. The Association condemned the review shows of the new releases on TV channels, saying that they adversely affected the prospects of the films. The association has warned of stringent action against members who are found violating the ban. Already, the film producers, distributors and exhibitors have come out strongly against any film shows on the channels.

VIJAYWADA:Nice India chairman and managing director Korivi Pocham Raju has been arrested and was brought here on Friday on charges of cheating the people of Machilipatnam and several other towns of almost Rs 20 crore by luring them with higher interest on short term deposits. He had issued a cheque for Rs 4 crore to area managers, but it bounced.

Puvvuluru Kavita who was on fast seeking action against the man who allegedly jilted her after promising to marry her, called off her five-day-old hunger strike on Friday following an assurance from the police. Bowing to pressure from various quarters K R M Kishore, SP, promised to investigate her charge against Kaki Venkata Rao of her village.
