Polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state was by and large peaceful barring stray incidents of clashes, intimidation and proxy-voting. Around 80 per cent of the electorate exercised their franchise. The ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland pitted Wangyuh Konyak of Nagaland People8217;s Front against the Congress MP of the dissolved Lok Sabha, K. Asungba Sangtam.

Two EVMs were damaged in Phek and Wokha districts by supporters of political parties after a scuffle while another EVM developed a technical snag at Mongsenyimti village of Mokokchung district. The damaged EVMs were replaced immediately and polling resumed. Phek administration issued an arrest warrant against a schoolteacher who allegedly damaged an EVM at Chozuba.

Opposition Congress alleged that workers of the ruling DAN, in connivance with officials and an underground cadre, whisked away the party8217;s polling agents in many places. Over 90 per cent voter turnout was recorded in some rural Assembly segments. Kohima registered the lowest between 60 and 65 per cent.
