Suhas Bahulkar8217;s series of paintings titled Footprints Of Destiny are a tribute to a cultural tradition that is fast disappearing. His inspiration is a storehouse of childhood memories, a leaf from the past. The artist tries to recreate images of the Maharashtrian way of life in the first half of the century 8212; lavish havelies and faded murals adorning broken walls. quot;Old sepia photographs of our forefathers, go hand-in-hand with my nostalgic memories, quot; says Bahulkar. And every detail comes alive 8212; the textures of old wooden pillars, brackets, windows and doors, staircases and railings. And so do the men and the women, dressed in their traditional attire and the muted beauty of their simple ornaments. Bahulkar has held several solo exhibtions in India and overseas. His works are a part of the collections of many organisations and individuals in India and abroad. The works on display in his latest exhibition are priced between Rs 5,000 and Rs, 60,000.

Mind over the body
Harinath Peddada8217;s latest one-man show brings alive Rajasthani village life 8212; his favourite obssession. The folk and village life of the state, depicting men and women at work in their natural rural ambience, is recreated in the 20 oil-on-canvas paintings. The works are priced in the range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 30,000.
69-year-old Peddada who hails from Andhra Pradesh is an artist with a difference. Stricken with infantile paralysis when he was just six months old, he also lost the power of hearing with this attack. But his love for art inspired him to study painting and he later completed a four-year course in commercial art from the J J School of Art. He has been honoured by the Lalit Kala Academy in 1975 and the Bombay Art Society in 1996, besides winning several prizes.

Beacon of light
Nancy Goldring8217;s collection of photographs drawings with foto-projections titled Distillations contains works from three different series. Each of these derives from Goldring8217;s 10-year period of study of Buddhist sacred sites in Southeast Asia. Says Ellen Handy of The International Center of Photography, New York, quot; Her work is a radiant construction mingling reality, perception and imagination. East and West, past and present, fact and intuition are accorded equal significance. Tunnel Visions employ the related metaphors of the tunnel, cave and jungle passage, invoking ancient caves carved rock temples in relation to the natural world.
