New Zealand were 177 for five in their second innings at the close of the third day of the third and final Test against England at Trent Bridge on Saturday, as the hosts edged nearer to a series win.

Jacob Oram 8 batting and Gareth Hopkins 7 batting were battling against the swinging ball in overcast conditions. New Zealand trailed England by 64 runs.

There was no play before lunch because of rain and bad light but soon after the resumption England were again dominant, as they had been on Friday. New Zealand lost their last three wickets for no runs.

James Anderson finished with seven for 43 from 21.3 overs 8212; the best bowling of his first-class career 8212; to help England bowl New Zealand out for 123. They had resumed on 96 for six overnight in reply to England8217;s first innings 364.

New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori was caught at first slip by Andrew Strauss off Sidebottom for seven, before Broad claimed two wickets in his only over of the morning on his home ground.
