Seeking an end to the 8220;outside interference8221; in Iraq, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today suggested that a 8220;Muslim peacekeeping force8221; under the United Nations could be sent to the war-torn country to end the bloodshed.
8220;We have to stop all outside interference in Iraq, the mass killings8230;the carnage that is taking place there has to stop,8221; he said in his inaugural address at the two-day meet for Foreign Ministers of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Conference OIC.
8220;If all the warring factions8230;different factions, if they accept, then maybe a Muslim peacekeeping force under the United Nations umbrella could be looked at, if that leads to peace and resolution of the crisis,8221; the General said.
Musharraf said Pakistan stands for the integrity of Iraq and for peaceful resolution of the issue.
Progress in the Indo-Pak peace process also got considerable mention in his address, as did various issues confronting the Muslim world, including internal conflicts, socio-economic disparity and 8220;Islamophobia8221;. Musharraf called for collective measures to improve the situation. 8220;Let us help ourselves to rise collectively and socio-economically to correct the image of Islam internally and externally,8221; he said.
