Prithvi Theatre Festival showcases 10 plays selected by Satyadev Dubey

Nostalgia seems to be the flavour of the upcoming Prithvi Theatre Festival. And it was palpable at its Juhu auditorium when the annual event, dedicated to Satyadev Dubey, was

announced on Thursday. With its lineup consisting Dubey8217;s favourites, including two of his plays, more of reminiscing is guaranteed when the 30th anniversary of the festival rolls out on November 6.

Interestingly, the festival will be inaugurated at Horniman Circle Garden instead of its suburban bastion with Dubey8217;s latest play, Khuda Ke Liye Mat Dekhna. A look at the festival fare gives away Dubey8217;s

penchant for taking a fresh look at Mumbai8217;s best plays in the recent times. The plays

getting ready for a fresh round of applause are All About Women, Antigone, C for Clown, Cotton 56, Polyester 84, Giribala, Karodo Mein Ek, Sukubai, Shakkar Ke Paanch Daane and Tu.

On the second day of the festival, Prithvi Theatre will host The Dubey Show while an exhibition on him will open at Horniman Circle Garden. 8220;This year8217;s exhibition is specially structured to make carrying the exhibits and displaying them at other places

easier,8221; says Sanjna Kapoor. This is the third annual exhibition organised by Prithvi Theatre after the ones on Naya Theatre and Prithviraj Kapoor.

The world might be battling a meltdown but the theatre has managed to find sponsors to make the 11-day theatre extravaganza busier. Unlike last year when the festival was confined to Juhu, this year plays will be staged at three venues8212;Prithvi

Theatre, Karnataka Sangha and Horniman Circle Garden.

Platform performances at 8.15 pm, from November 8 to 16, will make sure that festival attendees8217; evenings are packed. This year8217;s platform dos have some well-known names like Dilip Prabhavalkar, Trishla Patel, Hidayat Sami, Sandeep Kulkari and Irawati Karniki. However, it8217;s the

8216;Festival Juloos8217; that comes across as a special pre-festival feature. These open-air skits across the city will feature stilt walkers as well as young performers. On the closing day, Vijay
