The much-publicised state-level function of the Non-Gazetted Officers’ Employees’ Federation to celebrate ‘Corruption Elimination Day’ was marred by a low turnout of employees today.
The thinly-attended function, presided over by Health Minister Dr Rajeev Bindal and Education Minister ID Dhiman, belied the tall claims of the employee leaders, that the federation has 1.13 lakh members. The function was organised by the Prem Singh Bharmaroia faction, considered one of largest employees body of the state. The organisers had earlier claimed that the Chief Minister would be the chief guest.
A similar function was held at Nalagarh by the faction lead by Surender Thakur, indicating that employees are not united for addressing their issues in the state. At Nalagarh, the vice-president of another faction, SS Kaushal, addressed the employees. He claimed that their federation has a strong base in the state, and is the only one recognised by the present government.
Similarly, leaders of the Bharmoria faction also claimed their proximity with the government and the CM. While the leaders had said that 300 units of blood would be donated to mark the day, the donors actually turned out to be not employees, but students. Both ministers assured employees that their demands would be taken up.
