The Election Commission slammed the brakes on Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Narmada Pujan Yatra today, hours after it took off this morning.
The ruling came on a Congress complaint that it was in ‘‘flagrant violation of the model code”. The yatra was in celebration of the Narmada Control Authority’s decision to increase the dam height to 110 metres.
The yatra was suspended near Dabhoi in Vadodara, 55 km from the dam site in Kevadia. But not before he slammed Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for not sharing the happiness of the people.
‘‘Who stopped them from sharing in Gujarat’s happiness? Begum sahiba was in Gujarat the day the decision to raise the dam height was announced, why didn’t she issue a statement welcoming the decision?’’ Calling Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as her jodidar, Modi said they were the only two who had failed to share the feel good mood.
