A screening panel of the Election Commission has rejected three films produced by the NCP for the election campaign. The panel has suggested changes in a fourth film.

8216;8216;We found that three films were in violation of the model code of conduct and hence rejected them,8217;8217; Joint Chief Electoral Officer K.V. Kurundkar said. The three films were meant to ridicule Shiv Sena-BJP leaders as well as highlight allegations that the Democratic Front government had done precious little for Vidarbha.

One of the films pokes fun at BJP leader Uma Bharati8217;s Tiranga Yatra. The EC pointed out that the tricolour or the word 8216;Tiranga8217; could not be used in the campaign.

Another film, Ghoshna Samrat Slogan King, aimed at ridiculing Sena chief Bal Thackeray did not find favour because of the use of slogans such as 8216;8216;Hatao Lungi, Bajao Pungi8217;8217; which was a Sena slogan during the late 60s.

NCP8217;s third film on Vidarbha was rejected because it showed a government officer explaining how the DF had performed well on developing the region.

The NCP has decided to appeal against the panel8217;s decision. In a letter sent to state Chief Electoral Officer U.P.S. Madan, NCP general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni said there was nothing objectionable in the three satires and urged him to clear the films.
