NEW DELHI, July 15: The decision of South-Eastern Railway authorities to field junior players backfired as Eastern Railway retained the All-India Inter-Railway men’s team championship at Nagpur. South-Eastern Railway rested Kishalaya Basak and chose the less experienced Amrish Chatterjee and Debbrata Sana for the first two singles, while Nupur Santra, who practises in England and landed in India some days before the start of this tournament, for third singles.

However, Chatterjee played well and won the first singles against Shivaji Dutta (22-20, 21-10) but his experience fell short in the decider against veteran Ganesh Kundu (Eastern Railway). Kundu, who won the second singles beating Debbrata Sana 22-20, 24-22, defeated Chatterjee 19-21, 21-15, 21-16 to win the match and title for his team.
