Bouncing back
After being dumped from Hasratein there was a lull in Seema Kapoor8217;s career. But now, she8217;s back in action with Chandni. She8217;s bagged a role in Betaal Pachisi too.
And that8217;s not all. These days, she also appears on the bold adult channel, Plus 21, in a serial called Ek Aur Silsila. Her co-stars: Mohan Bhandari and Navni Parihar. The only difference here is that unlike her role in Hasratein the other woman comes back as the wronged wife.
Q amp; A
On Friday evening, Vir Sanghvi of Star TV8217;s A Question of Answers was grilled by around 500 people from all over the world 8212; rather, the cyber world. NRIs around the globe bombarded him with queries on the current political scenario, criminalisation of politics, presidential rule. Sanghvi summarised his experience: 8220;We have this technology and it8217;s foolish not to use it. Going on the Internet is akin to not having swum before and being thrown into the deep.
quot; The chat was part of the Star TVwebsite8217;s election coverage, put up by the leading service provider, Plexus Technologies. Adds Parameswar Menon, President,Plexus Technologies, 8220;Star News has been able to fill the News gap for many NRIs during this momentous political transition of the country.8221;
New ball
More and more cricketers seem to be keen on roles for television 8212; either in front of the camera or behind it. Most of them started with modelling. Salil Ankola went a step further and bagged a lead role in Chahat Aur Nafrat on Zee TV. Others like Robin Singh and Ajay Jadeja, to name a few, appeared on MTV in the serial Cricket And Control. The latest is that Kapil Dev has produced a serial for Doordarshan called Different Strokes. But the all rounder won8217;t talk just about cricket. The programme is to present the life styles of personalities from the field of sports. This 28-episode series features P.T.Usha, Vishwanathan Anand and Saurav Ganguly for starters.
Settling down
Madhavan, theheartthrob on the small screen, is in the news these days. Not for his histrionics or his flirting.Everyone thought that his affair with long time sweetheart who happens to be an airhostess would end like the previous one. But he proved them wrong. If the buzz is to be believed he is all set to break a lot of hearts: he is planning to tie the knot with the aforementioned girl soon. He is so serious that he8217;s bought a flat at Oshiwara in the suburbs of Mumbai. He has even cut down on his shoots and is busy these days designing the interiors of his new house.
Hot stuff
So what if Javed Jafferi couldn8217;t succeed in films? Television seems to have done him a world of good. He can actually pick and choose from the offers that keep pouring in. So, although there are quite a few acting offers, he prefers veejaying. He is so popular that he even got an offer from a morninger for a column. And recently he was interviewed by Peter Ustinov on BBC. The subject of discussion: the importance and impact ofEnglish on Indian culture and way of life. Ustinov was highly impressed with Jafferi8217;s histrionics on television and was extremely keen on him for the show.
Who8217;s that guy
Another casualty who couldn8217;t make it big in films is Sudesh Berry. One can barely remember him in films like Vansh and in the blockbuster Ghaayal, as Sunny Deol8217;s one of four to five friends. He switched to television when even roles of brothers and friends dropping in. Then he stuck to B-grade films or is it the other way round?. On television, some good roles like Andaz and Yug came his way. But now, if rumours are to be believed, he8217;s planning to call it quits. Some of his close pals insist that he is planning to settle abroad and try his luck in Hollywood a la Rahul Roy who met with nothing but failure and is back home as a director. If the grapevine is to be believed, Berry8217;s plans of settling abroad are not just because of the lure of Hollywood but because he is going steady with aphirang. He wants to marry her and make her homeland his.
