AHMEDABAD, NOV 21: In a shocking incident, the Madhopura police seized a packet of brown sugar, bhang and Rs 48,000 from the police quarters house of a constable in Shahibaug early on Friday. Police arrested a 28-year-old armed constable Janaksinh Nirubha Parmar with the contraband, under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The accused had kept the narcotic drugs in a plastic jar. Primary investigation revealed that the accused used to distribute the drugs to habitual users in small polythene bags which were also seized from the raided house. Parmar was posted in the border district of Panchmahals from where he procured the contraband, and sold them in Ahmedabad, police said.

Acting on a tipoff, Madhopura inspector A L Desai and his team raided building number 579 in the police headquarters. Police have taken possession of 14.3 gm of brown sugar worth Rs 14,300, 8.85 kg of bhang worth Rs 1,636, along with the cash. The contraband was then transferred to the Madhopura police station,sources said.

Parmar had been recently reinstated after being suspendedtwo years ago. He had been remaining absent for the last one and a half months at the Thabaria outpost near Jhalod in Panchmahals district. The raid was conducted following intelligence reports.
