Driver beaten by traffic cops dies

A 35-year-old man who was allegedly beaten up by traffic policemen in Bawana area of Outer Delhi succumbed injuries in hospital.

A 35-year-old man who was allegedly beaten up by traffic policemen in Bawana area of Outer Delhi succumbed injuries in hospital. The incident occurred on Thursday when truck driver Jabbar had come to Delhi to deliver a consignment. Traffic cops allegedly beat up Jabbar after he had reportedly jumped the traffic signal on Shahbad red light. The police said he was on his way to Rajasthan after unloading his truck in Swaroop Nagar. 8220;As soon he crossed the signal, he was stopped by the traffic police officials. Traffic officials asked him to show documents of the vehicle and pay the challan amount. Jabbar started arguing and cops started beating him up,8221; sources said. Jabbar was then admitted to Satyam Hospital in a critical condition and after battling for life for three days, succumbed to injuries on Sunday morning. Sources allege the police have not registered a case yet and have not handed over the body to the relatives of Jabbar.

DCP, Outer Delhi, Atul Katiyar denied allegations and said the body will be handed over after the postmortem.
