In an apparent attempt at keeping the Hindutva agenda alive, Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani today said that the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya would begin soon after the BJP gets back to power after the Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing a public rally here today as part of his Bharat Uday Yatra, Advani said, ‘‘Ram rajya would be established in the country. We have no doubt in our mind that we will win the elections and A.B. Vajpayee would again take the oath as the country’s prime minister. The Congress will not be able to reach even a three-figure mark.’’

The BJP, the Deputy PM said, had given political stability to the country. ‘‘Between 1988 and 1998, they (the Congress and others) gave seven prime ministers to the country, while from 1998 until now we have had just one prime minister. We had promised a good administration and the party has kept its word,’’ he remarked.

Launching a scathing attack on votebank politics, Advani said it has destroyed the country and given birth to communalism. However, Muslims of the country have realised how they had been taken for a ride by the previous governments, the Deputy PM said.

Later, addressing another public rally in Karnal, Advani said the coming Lok Sabha elections would be crucial. He also addressed rallies at Kurukshetra and Ambala before proceeding to Chandigarh.

Sonipat MP Kishan Singh Sangwan, Union Minister for Home and Karnal MP I.D. Swami, Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma, Haryana BJP president Ganeshi Lal and senior party leader Krishan Pal Gurjar were also present at the Deputy PM’s public rallies.
