CHANDIGARH, May 1: Haryana State Electricity Board and Bhakra Beas Management Board won their league matches in contrasting styles to enter the quarterfinal stage of the 25th All India Electricity Board football tournament being played at Sector 17 Football Stadium and Panjab University Campus. HSEB scored a facile 13-0 win over Karnataka State Electricity Board while BBMB had to struggle to beat Power Development Corporation Limited, West Bengal by a solitary goal.In the HSEB-Karnataka tie, Sanjay Sharma was the main architect in the former's win. He scored a double hat-trick which enabled his team to register victory by a huge margin.Three goals in the first seven minutes of the game were evident of the events to come. HSEB had taken a commanding 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Karnataka did not even hava a bleak chance of staging a comeback.In the match which was confined to Karnataka's half, Sanjay Sharma was on the target in the very first minute. Four minutes later, he made it 2-0 and in the 7th minute, his weak shot went past the goalkeeper Babu, to score the first hat-trick of the meet.Sanjay was also able to beat Babu in the 9th, 17th and 19th minutes.Ravinder (26th, 34th), Mahipal (28th) Sumesh Bagga (29th), were the other marksmen before the lemon break.After resumption, Karnataka substituted their keeper Babu with Sudakar. But Sudakar also crumled under the bar before the might of HSEB and goals kept flowing at regular intervals.Sanjay Sharma got his seventh goal in the 32nd and 8th in the 40th minute.Jorawar Singh scored in the 42nd minute to complete the tally.BBMB, who beat HPSEB by 2-0 in their opening league match yesterday, had to face stiff resistance in the match today against PDCL. However, after a barren first half, Satpal scored the match winner for BBMB in the 42nd minute, to keep their hopes alive for reckoning.KSEB, who lost to HSEB (13-0), were also outplayed by Ahmedabad State Electricity Board 7-1.Although, KSEB drew the first blood through Harry Decosta in the 10th minute, the players lost the initiative to grab the ball and the contest. ASEB's Jitenderan scored parity in the 21st minute. He was also on the target in the 29th, 31st, 45th, 69th minutes. Ashok Chaudhary and Rajub shot the sixth and seventh goals in the 61st and 64th minutes respectively.In the other league matches played Orissa State Electricity Board beat Maharashtra State Electricity Board 4-0, TNSEB outplayed Damodar Valley Corporation 3-0 and PDCL, West Bengal defeated HPSEB 2-0.
