Delhi woman throttles father-in-law, bashes his head — as two kids watch

Around the time Geeta’s mother-in-law passed away in August, she was allegedly asked by her in-laws – Naresh, his other son Kapil and daughter – to come and stay at the Bindapur house. “Geeta would be asked to stay at her in-laws’ place. But after a few days, they would ask her to leave, making her feel humiliated. This happened around 6-7 times, she has alleged,” an officer said.

“The neighbours would apparently say, ‘You have come back again’… She felt she had become a joke in the eyes of her neighbours,” the officer added.

Geeta allegedly also felt that Praveen was not giving her enough credit for taking care of his family. Police said that Praveen, when questioned, has corroborated Geeta’s account. “He seconded whatever Geeta had said… He said he didn’t know why or when their relationship with his father soured,” said the officer.

The officer added that Geeta allegedly planned to kill Naresh on December 26 night after he told her to leave the next day. “She knew that he would go to the terrace to soak in the winter sunlight, and planned to attack him there.” She allegedly pushed Naresh onto the terrace floor, sat on his chest, and banged his head against the concrete surface before throttling him. The assault was witnessed by Naresh’s 13-year-old daughter and Geeta’s son.

The teenager told police that her nephew alerted her, saying he was scared as his mother was attacking his grandfather. When she rushed upstairs, police said, she found Geeta assaulting Naresh and called Kapil, who asked her to seek help from neighbours.

DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh had said on Monday that a police team from Bindapur police station reached the spot following a PCR call. A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Bindapur police station.
