In the not-so-distant past, the end of a relationship was an excuse for a new haircut or a designer dress. But, today, it seems women, mostly those in their mid-age, prefer splashing out on a new smile as the route to a fresh romance.

Researchers have found that women in their late 40s and early 50s, who are divorced, spend thousands on appearance-enhancing dental work, that is cosmetic dentistry, the Daily Mail reported.

8220;People want a nice healthy smile that looks natural,8221; said Dr James Goolnick at the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

The researchers came to the conclusion after conducting a survey on over 2,000 Britons and found 27 per cent of people in the 45 to 54 age bracket have had cosmetic dentistry against just 20 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds.

The study also revealed that Britons seeking a new smile prefer the more natural look of celebrities such as Kylie Minogue and George Clooney.
