PUNE, May 2: In a move aimed at reducing the pendency of cases, the State Government has increased the number of the lower divisional and first class magisterial courts besides starting some new link courts.

The decision to increase the number of courts in Pune was taken after it was noticed that the number of cases pending in the lower divisional and first class magisterial courts was increasing alarmingly in the last some years.

The presiding officers in some of the courts were trying to reduce the workload by speeding up the proceedings of various cases and trials. However, these efforts had proved little help in curbing the pendency of cases. As of now Pune has ten courts. The number of various courts in the city will reach 17 after the new courts start functioning.

Some of the Lower Division and First Class Judicial Magistrates were recently transferred out of Pune in a routine reshuffle. The magistrates who were brought to Pune during the recent reshuffle have been appointed to work with the newly created link courts.

A link court has been created to reduce the work load on the Judicial Magistrate, First Class JMFC posted with the court number 3, 6, 9 and anti corruption court each. Two link courts have been formed to reduce the workload on the Judicial Magistrate, First Class in court number 5 and 8 each.

Magistrates R R Kale, A J Patangankar and D D Deshmukh were shifted out of Pune during this reshuffle.
