The United States began their final series of World Cup warm-up games with a 0-1 loss to Morocco on Tuesday night in which the most significant event was yet another injury to US captain Claudio Reyna.Mohamed Madihi, who entered in the 60th minute, scored for the 36th-ranked Atlas Lions in the 90th minute off a pass from Bouchaib El Moubarki after the US defence got caught in the Moroccan end. Madihi, who was wide open, easily put the ball over goalkeeper Kasey Keller. It was a dismal night for the Americans, who generated only a few good scoring chances. Reyna hobbled off with a strained right hamstring in the 17th minutes, and the extent of his injury was not immediately known. “It’s close to the games. Obviously not the best timing,” Reyna said, “but I hope I’ve gotten away with something very minor.”Meanwhile, Reyna is scheduled to have a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the hamstring injury he suffered on Tuesday. “It’s really just tightened up on me so it was just precautionary to come out,” Reyna told reporters. “It’s really close to (the World Cup) so it’s not the best timing,” said Reyna, who missed the first match of the 2002 World Cup due to a quadriceps strain.RONALD BLUM
