AMBALA CANTONEMENT, Jan 21: Dingko Singh, the bubbly powerpack from the Services Sports Control Board who won the flyweight gold for the country in the prestigious King’s Cup, has graduated into the higher bantam weight category only this year and is already looking invincible. After demolishing his first round opponent B Toshi of Nagaland with a first-round knockout on Monday, he again stamped his superiority with a unanimous 17-0 points decision over Sazid Qamar of Bengal in the second round on the third day of the 44th Senior National Boxing Championships at the Indoor Hall of the War Heroes Memorial Stadium here on Wednesday.

Sazid, realising that he was up against a formidable rival, refused to be intimidated merely by the reputation of the Services pugilist, who won the best boxer award in the last Nationals held at Calcutta.

Dingko immediately put his opponent on the defensive with a couple of good combinations to the head. So confident was he of his abilities that he put down his guard completely while dancing around the ring and teasing his opponent to have a go at him. Dingko threw punches almost at will as the Bengal boxer looked content to defend.

The occasional jab Sazid did throw either did not connect or did not carry enough power, as the champion boxer was very quick on his feet. Though Sazid was the loser by a gaping margin in the end it was creditable on his part to take the champion boxer the full distance.

In an absorbing fly-weight quarterfinal bout Birju Saha of Steel Plants Sports Board (SPSB), the commonwealth and Hiroshima Asian Games bronze medallist, overcame a tough challenge from another international, Lakhvinder Singh of Railway Sports Control Board (RSCB) to win by a 4-1 decision.
