MUMBAI, JUNE 23: Diebold Inc, the US-based automatic teller machine ATM manufacturer, is planning to set up a software development facility in India. The company currently outsources a significant amount of software from the country through its joint venture with the Chennai-based HMA Data Systems.
quot;We may put up our own software development centre in the first quarter of the next year, quot; chairman and CEO Robert W Mahoney said. He was, however, not willing to reveal any investment figures.
Mahoney was addressing a press conference at the launch of its new range of retail banking solutions in India. The company has introduced an iris recognition biometric system solution which eliminates the need for an ATM card or personal identification number. The machine scans the iris of the customer and compares it with the previously stored digital image for validation. The transaction is initiated only if a match is established.
The second product uses optinet, a software technology designed by the company, to leverage internet technology for other delivery channels. Its customised ATM marketing concept, iqCRM, allows ATM deployers to cross-sell services through personalised, on-screen marketing messages.
Harish K Murthi, managing director of Diebold HMA, said the firm had 600 installations in India accounting for 60 per cent of the overall ATM market in the country. quot;We expect the market to expand by about 700 per cent in the next three years, quot; he added.
