The stalemate on the possible re-induction of Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee into the Union Cabinet continued for the second day today, even as party leaders expect a call from Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee any moment.
‘‘Though there has been no new development during the past 24 hours to end the impasse, we have full faith in the Prime Minister and his statesmanship,’’ party leader Pankaj Banerjee said this evening.
The Trinamool chief remained confined in her residence throughout the day today and refused to talk to reporters. She, however, said there was very little hope that the Prime Minister would find time to talk to her before his departure for a week long three-nation Europe tour.
Sources close to Banerjee said that she had received several communications from the PMO yesterday before his announcement that another ‘‘minor’’ reshuffle would be effected in the Cabinet, possibly after his return from Europe.
