SUNDERNAGAR, May 11: Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal told media persons here this morning that the state government had urged the Railway Ministry to execute work on the Nangal-Talwara rail link, convert Pathankot-Jogindernagar and Kalka-Parwanoo rail line into broad gauge and start construction of Bhanopli-Bilaspur-Rampur rail line to reduce burden on national and state highways in Himachal Pradesh.

Dhumal further said that he would urge the railways minister to introduce direct rail link between Ahmedabad and Kalka and Ahmedabad-Pathankot to promote tourism in the state. Similarly, a direct rail link should be introduced between Calcutta and Pathankot, he added.

When asked about the demand made by Sukh Ram for a CBI probe against Virbhadra Singh, Dhumal said the chargesheet had not been prepared so far. As soon as it is, action would be taken under law.

Dhumal agreed that the condition of roads in the state was not satisfactory as the former CM Virbhadra Singh had only used a helicopter so his government had ignored the maintenance of state highways. The present government was giving priority to maintenance of roads, he said.

Dhumal confessed that under the Punjab Re-organisation Act, the interests of Himachal Pradesh were sold out, but the previous Congress governments at Delhi and Shimla did not plead the case of HP in Parliament and the Vidhan Sabha. He promised to take up the issue with the Union government.

Dhumal said the construction work on Kol Dam, Chamera-II, Malana project, Larji project and Sawra project would start soon. This would generate jobs for thousands of unemployed youths.
