LUDHIANA, MAY 1: Perturbed over the recent reports of police torture published in newspapers during the last couple of weeks, DGP P.C.Dogra has categorically told the police in general and officers in particular to learn to behave or face severe action.

Stating this to newspersons here today, the DGP said that whosoever did any wrong, would not be spared. 8220;I am really upset over the image of the police,8221; he said and added, 8220;Wrongdoers in the force should not expect any leniency.8221;

He said that he was deliberately mum in the recent instances because probe had already been ordered in almost all the cases and he would wait for the outcome of the inquiries before initiating any action.

Dogra was here to chair the meeting of the senior officers of the Ludhiana range to review the working of the police. He said, 8220;From now onwards, a quarterly review meetings will be held at the range level instead of earlier at the headquarter level. Today8217;s was the first such meeting,8221; he added.

In an important decision taken after a high-powered meeting held at Chandigarh on April 28, Dogra disclosed that three new full-fledged police stations at Model Town, Basti Jodhewal and Haibowal would be set up. 8220;A regular police station for women, first in Punjab, will also be set up at Ludhiana,8221; he further disclosed.

Similarly,the DGP said that it had also been decided to streamline the traffic police, which would now be headed by an SP-level officer. 8221;about 500 additional manpower will be made available for the purposes,8221; he added.

Dogra said that the anti-national elements across the border were hell-bent to create disturbance. He, however, expressed his satisfaction over the preparedness.
