VADODARA, Aug 5: District Education Officer DEO V Nanavati has already obtained permission from the education department at Gandhinagar for the opening of new classes in schools to accommodate all the students who have cleared the supplementary examinations.
The DEO has convened a meeting of all city-based schools to sort out the problem which began six days ago when the results were announced.
8220;Earlier, there was a problem in accommodating 450 out of 1,200 students who cleared the supplementary examinations. With the state government8217;s permission to open four new classes, accommodating them will not be a problem,8221; said Nanavati.
He, however, clarified that the students would have to take admissions in non-grant classes as there was no alternative at the moment. 8220;Most of the schools have already granted admissions much beyond their capacity. They could not be instructed to accommodate more students,8221; said an official at the DEO8217;s office. Till last year, most of the schools had 75 students per class. But this year, due to the high pass percentage, the strength had to be raised to 80 per class. 8220;Even the schools can8217;t be blamed if they refuse to accommodate more students8221; said the official.
8220;With the existing facilities, it is difficult to grant admissions to more students in our school,8221; said Harshad Patel, principal of Alembic Vidyalay. Patel opined that the school was already packed beyond its capacity. 8220;The ideal capacity is 65 students per class,8221; said Patel.
Nanvati admitted that initially, when the results were declared there was a problem, but with the sanctioning of five classes earlier and four more now, accommodating students would not be a difficult task this year.
