VADODARA, July 15: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC on Wednesday swooped down on illegal constructions in the parking slots of residential complexes in Sayajiganj, even as it slapped bills of charges to the tune of Rs 99,936 on Fatehraj Nasta House, near Jalaram Temple in Karelibaug, for carrying out business from civic land.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Administration H S Patel told Express Newsline that two shops 8212; a godown over 600 sq ft and another room over 200 sq ft 8212; were demolished from a parking slot of Payal Complex Co-operative Housing Society.

In the operation jointly carried out by the encroachment removal squad and the town development department, unauthorised construction of nearly 2,000 sq ft on the terrace of the complex was also razed.

The team of officers led by Bajrang Pardeshi, Bhargav Vyas, N J Chavda, Kanubhai Patel and others took more than six hours to effect demolition with the support of the Fire Brigade and the police. An unauthorised 80-feet long compound wall was also demolished.

Iron angles laid by Hotel Kansar, Hotel Apsara, a compound wall constructed by Hotel Ambassador and Yadav Ras Ghar near Alankar cinema were also demolished.

Illegally parked scooters and cycles kept by Rami Class near Subhanpura were also removed.

Several people in the area voluntarily demolished the unauthorised construction, Patel said, adding that the demolitions on the R C Dutt Road, Alkapuri and Baroda Productivity Council BPC Road would continue.

He further said that owner of the Fatehraj Nasta House was served a bill to pay administrative charges to the tune of Rs 99,936 towards using the civic land for more than 10 years. The materials of the Nasta House were deposited in the Atladara Stores recently.

The owner has been asked to pay the charges within a week8217;s time failing which the Corporation has threatened to attach another shop owned by him.

Cattle Fine: The VMC has recovered fine to the tune of Rs 2,87,775 in May and June from those letting their cattle loose on the streets.

According to an official spokesman, as many as 1,035 cattle were caught by the Corporation squad and sent to the pounds. The fine included the amount spent by the Corporation towards feeding the cattle till the time the owners released them.

The work was carried out under the leadership of S M Mule and N K Parekh.

PLANTATION PROGRAMME: THE VMC has organised a sapling plantation programme between Munjmahuda and Vishwamitri Bridge on Thursday from 10 am onwards. Mayor Ratilal Desai will inaugurate the programme. Social workers and councillors are expected to attend the programme.
