Demolition drive conducted at Mall, Cemetery roads

Following directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in response to a public interest litigation filed by a resident, the Municipal Corporation conducted a demolition drive on the Mall road and Cemetery road on Friday morning.

In three under-construction buildings, stairs constructed in the parking area were demolished.

Assistant Town Planner S S Bindra said: 8220;The stairs were constructed in the area meant for parking and had to be demolished. The owners have been told to rectify other violations as well. Last week, the Department of Town Planning had issued notices to 16 such buildings but the owners did not heed the warning.8221;
