This is to be followed by a makeover demonstration and a lucky draw.Advani inaugurates police meetThe three-day all-India Police Officers Conference organised by the Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless was inaugurated by Union Home Minister L. K. Advani at Vigyan Bhavan today. The conference is being attended by the heads of all the State/Central Police telecommunications organisations. Advani appreciated the ``pivotal role of the DCPW in building up a massive police telecommunication set-up in the country with more than 88,000 police wireless stations functioning on a regular basis.'' He conferred the police medals to six DCPW officers, who were awarded medals on the Independence Day.Workshop on thalassaemiaA week long international workshop on thalassaemia begins here tomorrow. Organised by the Thalassaemics India and Sri Gangaram Hospital, the workshop is sponsored by the Department of Health, Delhi Administration and the Thalassaemia International Federation, Cyprus. The venue will be the Sri Gangaram Hospital. Dr V.K. Khanna, one of the organisers, said that thalassaemia is a blood disorder, which makes a patient completely dependent on blood transfusions. While the transfusions are affordable, the medicines to cure the disease are much beyond the means of a common man. Besides this, the workshop will discuss issues, such as, infection through transfusions and complications in thalassaemia, he said.Hongkong Bank opens branchThe Hongkong Bank today opened a branch at DLF Central Arcade in Phase II.
