Deadline for MTNL bills extended
Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited has extended its deadline for payment for bills in certain area because of delays arising out of the problems of dispatch and mail.

Following is the schedule for payments: For the billing cycle 16.6.98 in the areas of Karol Bagh, Janakpuri, Pamkha Road, Dwarka, Shadipur, Delhi Cantt, Nazafgarh, Samalkha, Indira Gandhi International Airport, Palam, Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Pashchim Vihar and Nangloi, the extended date is August 8. For the billing cycle, 1.7.98 in the areas Kidwai Bhavan, Janpath, Jor Bagh, CGO Complex, Sena Bhawan, Raj Path, Indira Gandhi Stadium and Pragati Maidan, the extended pay-by-date is August 14. For the areas of Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Paschim Vihar and Nangloi the extended date is August 13. For the billing cycle, 16.7.98 in the areas of Kidwai Bhawan, Janpath, Jor Bagh, CGO complex, Sena Bhawan, Raj Path, Indira Gandhi Stadium, Pragati Maidan the extended pay-by-date is August 17. For the billing cycle, 16.7.98 in the areas of Karol Bagh, Janakpuri, Dwarika, Shadipur, Delhi Cantt, Najafgarh, Samalkha, Indira Gandhi International Airport and Palam the extended date is August 18. For the billing cycle,16.7.98 in the areas of Rajouri Garden, Hari Nagar, Pashchim Vihar and Nangloi the extended deadline is August 19.

Power supply to be disrupted
Due to some maintenance work electricity supply will be affected between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on August 6 in the following areas: Gulmohur Park, Asian Village Games Complex Cultural Centre, pumping station at Greater Kailash-I and Panchsheel Club. Electricity supply will be affected between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 6 in the following areas: Apollo Hospital-I, Mohan Co-operative Bawa Nagar, Mohan Co-operative industrial Area, gali no. 1 to 8 Dharam Pura, Gali Gurudwara, Gali Guru Govind Singh, gali no 19 and 20 Kailash Nagar, Kailash Nagar main, Gian mohalla and Ajit Nagar.

Vidyut Board penalises 26 employees
Following the Delhi Vidyut Board’s drive against corruption launched in July, 26 employees have been penalised. These include two executive engineers and five inspectors. The penalties ranged from removal from service and withholding of increments to reductions and cuts in pension.

Delhi Tourism to present two plays
To mark 50 years of Independence, Delhi Tourism will present two plays — Yaad Karo Qurbani and Inquilaab Zindabad — on August 7 and 8 at Kamani Auditorium. A group of 30 children between the ages of eight to 16 years, mostly from schools in the Walled City, will be cast in these plays. While Yaad Karo Qurbani is based on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Inquilaab Zindabad is based on the life of Saheed Bhagat Singh. The Rs 20 tickets are available at DTTDC coffee homes, Dilli Haat, Cottage Industries and at the venue.

50th anniversary cultural show
To mark the 50th anniversary of India’s Independence a cultural programme, is being organised at Talkatora Stadium tomorrow. Music director Dilip Sen and Samir Sen, pop singer Altaf Raja will take part in the function organised by a private channel.

Holiday for govt schools on Aug 7
August seven will be a holiday for all government schools in Delhi because of elections of the Government School Teachers’ Association, an official order said on Wednesday. In lieu of this, all government schools will remain open on the last working day of the month (August 31). The decision has been taken on the request of the teachers’ association, according to Director of Education Archana Arora. Arora clarified that the decision, however, would not hold good for aided, public and local bodies schools.

40-yr-old man stabbed
Two persons allegedly attacked a 40-year-old man, Ram Avtar, with a knife in the Patparganj Industrial area on Wednesday afternoon. The police said that the incident was a result of old enmity. Ram Avtar has been admitted to Swami Dayanand hospital with stab injuries. The assailants have also been identified.
