Around 66,000 households of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) will get major relief as the Chandigarh Administration has decided to restore the January 3, 2023 notification to regularise need-based changes made by residents in their homes under the provisions of the old notification.

Speaking with mediapersons at the UT Secretariat on Friday evening, Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad said, “A fresh notification in this regard will be issued by the end of January. Residents who have made essential alterations to their houses will be given relief after paying prescribed charges.”

Notably, out of the 66,000 CHB houses in the city, nearly 60,000 have undergone need-based modifications over the years. These homes are currently facing notices related to violations and misuse.

Following a Supreme Court order dated January 10, 2023, the administration had withdrawn the January 3, 2023 notification.

The Chief Secretary said, “The old notification is currently being reviewed by an 11-member committee headed by the Estate Secretary. The committee is expected to submit its report by January 24, which will then be sent to Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria for approval. Up to 90 per cent relaxation granted earlier under the need-based changes policy will be retained. Some new provisions may also be added in the fresh notification.”

Sector-53 Housing Scheme

The Chief Secretary also announced that a new housing scheme in Sector 53 would be launched by March. He said the entire land in Sector 53 will be developed through plotting and sold via e-auction. Any private developer will be allowed to participate in the auction process.

E-Post Service from January 15

As part of the next phase of the e-office initiative, the administration will introduce e-post services from January 15. All complaints and issues will be routed to officials digitally through the e-office system.
