Hauz Khas electronics exchange inaugurated
Union Communication Minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the OCB digital electronic exchange at Hauz Khas on Saturday. The project envisages commissioning of 10,000 lines at a cost of Rs 5.82 crore. The exchange equipment has been supplied by ITI Ltd and installed by the Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd MTNL.

C V Rajan, chief general manager, MTNL, Delhi, stated that with the commissioning of this exchange approximately 5,500 subscribers working from electro-mechanical exchange will be able to avail of all phones as well as value-added services such as call waiting. Other exchanges which would be replaced in a similar fashion include, Tis Hazari, Shakti Nagar, Chanakyapuri, Idgah and Karol Bagh.

During the current year, MTNL, Delhi, also plans to give 2,20,000 new connections for this purpose. New exchanges would be operating at Savitri Nagar, Mahipalpur, Ghitorni, Chandiwala Estate, IIT, Kanjhwala, Dwarka, Connaught Place, Bawana, Shalimar Bagh, Mangolpuri, Badli, Narela, Kondli, East of Loni and Zafrabad.

Traffic diversionsThe Delhi Traffic Police have advised motorists to avoid certain routes in Central Delhi on Monday morning because of a youth Congress procession, which will begin in Rasina Road and terminate at Jantar Mantar at 11.30 a.m.. It will take the route of Raisina road, Windsor Place, Janpath and Tolstoy marg. Therefore, motorists have been advised to avoid these routes and also Ashok Road and Sansad marg between 9 p.m. and 12 p.m.. These roads may also be closed to traffic during the procession.

Soccer exhibition
The first ever Soccer Philately Exhibition, tracing the origins of soccer till the present day, will be inaugurated by the Brazilian Ambassador on June 10 at 6.30 p.m. at Le Meridien hotel here. The inauguration coincides with the opening of the World Cup games in France. It will also mark the beginning of a one-month long festival Soccer Bites at the hotel.

Power supply disrputed
The peak power demand was 2,031 MW on Sunday, which was met through DVB8217;s own sources, Badarpur thermal power station and the Northern Grid. The frequency remained between 48.2 Hz to 49 Hz and voltage was between 177 to 184 K.V. No loadshedding was carried out. But due to system constraints and local faults, the power supply was interrupted in areas like NIzammuddin, Jungpura, Mayapuri, Ashok VIhar, Gandhi Nagar, Shahdara, Rampura, Gonda and Jamia Millia.

Applications for BA Journalism
The Delhi College of Arts and Commerce has invited applications for its 3-year Bachelor Course in Journalism. The last date for receipt of completed applications is June 23 up to 1 p.m. The entrance test is on June 24 at 9 p.m.. Applications can be received from the college office between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on all weekdays.
