
FIRING IN COURT COMPLEX: Metal detectors installed at entry points; complex to get CCTV cameras
Following the firing incident in the judicial complex on Monday, the police have started face-saving exercise by increasing security measures in the complex.
After the incident yesterday, eminent personalities, including the District and Sessions Judge, GK Rai and MP Sharanjit Singh Dhillon had condemned lack of security in the court complex.
The police installed four metal detectors at the entry points today, to prevent the entry of weapons in the complex. Besides, special commandoes have also been deployed to keep surveillance in the complex. These commandoes today took several rounds of the complex to restore the confidence of litigants and lawyers.
SP Rupinder Singh held a meeting with the office-bearers of the District Bar Association DBA to seek their suggestions on the safety arrangements in the complex. DBA President Parupkar Singh Ghuman put forward the suggestions and demands on behalf of the lawyers.
Ghuman sought round-the-clock security in the complex and installation of CCTV cameras in the complex. He also demanded that the parking lot of litigants and visitors should be different from that of lawyers.
He said that only those vehicles, which carry stickers issued by the DBA, should be allowed in the parking lot for lawyers. SP Rupinder Singh accepted these demands of the bar members and assured them that action would be taken soon on their suggestions.
SP Rupinder Singh further assured the DBA members that soon the boundary walls of the judicial complex will be raised so that anti-social elements cannot enter the complex.
SSP RK Jaiswal told Newsline that the CCTV cameras would be installed in the complex soon.
He said that security had already been stepped up in the complex.
He said that the police had been strictly instructed to be alert and vigilant in performing their duties.
No arrest made
Even a day after the firing incident in the court complex, the police have failed to arrest any of the four accused.
Meanwhile, the condition of injured Manveer Singh, who was operated at the DMC hospital late last evening, is stated to be out of danger. According to sources, the police parties were conducting raids to nab the accused who had fired at Manveer Singh. The police had booked Inderjit Singh, Bhagwant Singh, Jasbir Singh and Gurdeep Singh all residents of Sehjadpur village under Sudhar police station in Jagraon in an attempt to murder case.
SSP R.K. Jaiswal told Newsline, 8220;We are raiding at all the possible hideouts of the accused and hope to arrest them soon.8221;
Lawyers stay away from work
TO protest over Monday8217;s firing incident in the judicial complex, lawyers observed a strike today. The DBA executive had passed a resolution to this effect and had requested all the lawyers to observe strike to show solidarity on this issue.
