Kahn to hang up his boots after WC
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn will retire from Germany’s national team after the World Cup, according to club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. Kahn has been demoted to second choice by coach Juergen Klinsmann. “After the World Cup, he will quit the national team and concentrate fully on Bayern Munich,” Rummenigge said in an interview published Wednesday in Bild newspaper. Kahn has played 84 games for Germany and helped them reach the 2002 World Cup final. After Klinsmann’s decision to make him backup to Jens Lehmann, Kahn said he would accept the role and take part at the World Cup.
French squad to be named on Sunday
France coach Raymond Domenech will announce his squad Sunday. Domenech will appear live on French television program Telefoot in the morning to reveal his list of 23 players, the French soccer federation said. The squad will then head to the Alpine ski resort of Tignes between May 21-26 and play the first of three friendly matches against Mexico on May 27. Speculation is centred on whether Domenech will call up Franck Ribery and recall Robert Pires and Johan Micoud. The coach is also to choose between Coupet and Barthez as his first-choice goalkeeper.
Some tech-help for english fans
Trust English supporters to prepare meticulously. High on patriotism, they plan to travel light to Germany with a clutch of inflatables and noise-making accessories to keep them busy. There are air balloons (and their helium variants, if you were challenged as a blower) – in shapes of the football kit with official England FC logos and latex balloons, besides an almost 1 m high inflated trophy which runs out of stock pretty soon.
Now, even the hoarsest of supporter can get dry throats, so on offer is an England Megaphone – with this 9.5” electronic megaphone, including a pre-recorded 20 seconds supporters sound to save you some early effort.
