
4.75 kg brown sugar seized at Bhendi Bazaar
The Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai police seized 4.75 kilograms of brown sugar worth Rs 10 lakh on Wednesday. One person has been arrested in this connection.
According to the Sub-Inspector Ravindra Ranshevare, police received a tip-off that brown sugar was being sold by one Faiyaz Khan 34 in the open market at Bhendi Bazar. Accordingly, a raid was conducted and Khan was arrested. He has been remanded to police custody till November 17 by a Special Court. Police are on the lookout for Khan8217;s accomplice.
Three held for hotelier8217;s murder
Three men have been arrested in connection with killing a hotelier and injuring another person at Bandra in September.
The incident took place on September 14 when four unidentified assailants opened fire at the Nav Durga hotel. While owner Manu Dilavar, waiter Suresh Pujari was seriously injured. The shootout occurred because the hotelier did not allow the four men to drink there after mid-night. The onlyinformation available was that the attackers were Bengali and were employed in another hotel.
The police have arrested Uttam Biswas 24 alias Bengali and Bishu Mondal 20. The other two associates are still absconding, said police.
The accused are natives of 24 Parganas in West Bengal and have criminal records. A country-made revolver has been recovered from the duo.
Scuffle disrupts CR services
Trains on the Central Railway were disrupted for a brief period after a minor scuffle broke out between a passenger and a booking clerk. The scuffle broke out over the issuance of a wrong ticket at the Kanjurmarg railway station today. The passenger was allegedly roughed up by the clerk following which angry commuters placed sleepers on the tracks resulting in a delay to trains for upto ten minutes. A case has been booked against the clerk at the Kurla police station.
