
HISAR, Oct 4: Former chief minister Bhajan Lal today urged the Centre to send a fact-finding team to Haryana to assess the ground reality in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Addressing mediapersons here, he said the Bansi Lal government had failed to check the crime rate since it came to power in the state. 8220;In the last couple of months, the situation has gone beyond its control. Yet, the ruling combine has not initiated any steps that could stem the reign of terror, let loose by anti-social elements,8221; he added.
The former CM also demanded introduction of crop insurance scheme in the state on individual basis, so that farmers could be saved from certain ruination. Untimely heavy rains had badly damaged standing crops in a large number of areas and the farming community was in dire straits, he further added.
In reply to a question about party chief Sonia Gandhi8217;s proposed visit to Narwana and Rohtak in the second week of this month, Bhajan Lal said, 8220;The programme is yet to be finalised8221;.
Asked about efforts and entry of Haryana Gana Parishad chief Jai Prakash and sitting MLA from Barwala Ram Runia into Congress, he said, 8220;Yes and the party would welcome their induction8221;.
Conference on computer application: More than 100 scientists from various parts of the country will participate in the first annual conference of the Society of Statistics, Computer and Applications, being held at the CCS Haryana Agricultural University from October 23.
Dr l S Kaushik, head of Mathematic Department and organising secretary of the conference, today said that apart from deliberating on the contributions of computer technology of enhancing agricultural production, two symposia on the role of computers in research and development activity and computers in the service of farmers would be organised during the three- day conference.
