A torrid opening spell from West Indies paceman Courtney Walsh and Mervyn Dillon had New Zealand A shakily placed on Monday after day two of the three-day cricket tour match here.

England captain Nasser Hussain struck the first century by an English batsman in representative matches this year as the tourists reached 401 for eight in reply to Kwazulu/ Natal8217;s first innings total of 310.England8217;s reply was halted when bad light stopped play on the third day of the four-day fixture with all-rounder Andrew Flintoff batting on 74 and paceman Alex Tudor on 40 after a ninth wicket stand of 85.

SCG resurfacing
CANBERRA:
The entire soilof the Sydney Cricket Ground SCG will be removed and put on sale as the Australian government plans a complete resurfacing of the turf to commemorate the centenary of the federation test between Australia and West Indies.

The resurfacing will be taken up between Aug-Nov next year, in time for the 2000-1 international cricket season. Plans are afoot to sell the soil in commemorative transparent containers.
